Most people don’t count a layover where they stayed inside the airport. If you went through passport control and spent time outside, many travellers count it.

How many countries has the average person visited?

Surveys vary, but most people have visited fewer than 10 countries. Visiting more than 50 puts you among the most-travelled people in the world, and fewer than 400 people are known to have been to every country.

Which count should I use: UN members or all countries?

Both are shown here. The strictest count uses the 193 UN member states. Many travellers also count observer states and places like Taiwan and Kosovo, for 198 in total.
